Arctic Sunday 6th April at Anglesey Race Circuit
CLUB FORMULA FORD GOES ARCTIC
Sunday 6th
April saw four seasons in one day at Anglesey for the opening rounds of
the Club Formula Ford North West season and rounds 2 and 3 of the
National campaign. Those who were at Mallory Park on Easter Monday - for
round one of the National - had a little taster of winter with a slight
dusting of snow as they were in the Assembly Area. For the rest, for
once the Met Office got it right {they are probably still having a
celebration party} and the forecast snow for Sunday at Anglesey
materialised. The whole circuit looked very picturesque and Christmas
Card like under a covering of snow, but It wasn't quite as pleasant
actually being there though. After a delayed start, qualifying got under
way and 17 year old Doug Crosbie took pole for the first Pre90 National
Cup race and Dubliner Rob Barrable earned number one spot for the first
National race. As the day went on, there were further odd flurries of
snow and some warm sunshine and blue skies. There was even a bit of low
sea mist blowing in. By mid afternoon, looking out to sea produced a
wonderful vista of sea [somehow looking very blue and Mediterranean
like] with snow tipped mountains beyond. In the better weather, the
drivers were now producing lap record times. For the record, the Pre90
National Cup wins went to Nigel Thompson and David Bailey. In the
National arena, the wins went to Rob Barrable and Graham Carroll. Full
reports and photos will be online within the next 48 hours. Club
Formula Ford now moves on to Silverstone this weekend 12th/13th April
for a Midlands South double header;
then
Oulton Park on Sat 19th April for a North West round
and Brands Hatch on Sunday 27th April for a National one day double
header. Let's hope for better and warmer spring type weather. The
racing however is guaranteed whatever the weather. It is Formula
Ford 1600, so it will be good. |
