Our Condolences from the Club

I am sorry to have to inform you that Stewie Rawstern passed away a week last Friday.

For those who didn't know him, he was the chap with the big yellow motor bike who helped out both Stuart Sanders and Alan Pike over the last few years.

Stuart has asked me to circulate the funeral details to the Club Formula Ford mailing lists.

The funeral will be held at 1200 noon on Wednesday 23rd December at:

The Manchester Crematorium

YOUNG RACER SARAH MOORE AWARDED BRITISH CLUB DRIVER OF THE YEAR

Sixteen-year-old racing driver Sarah Moore was awarded the British Club Driver of the Year award at the highly-prestigious Autosport Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on 6 December 2009.Moore was in good company, as Formula One Champion Jenson Button, World Rally Championship driver Mikko Hirvonen and British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington all received accolades at the event.

Earlier this year, Moore secured the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship title, becoming the first-ever female to win a mixed-sex motor racing championship at national level. The North Yorkshire driver raced to five victories during the Ginetta Junior season, which supported the prestigious British Touring Car Championship at tracks across the country, including the world-famous Silverstone circuit.

As one of a host of youngsters looking to excel in the sport, Moore will be kicking off the 2010 season on the Autosport Stage at Europe's largest motorsport show, Autosport International, on 14-17 January. She will visit the Birmingham-based event to reflect on her breakthrough season and her aspirations for the future, as well as giving advice to other young drivers who want to get into the sport.

Also providing information to aspiring drivers will be the Motor Sports Association's (MSA) Go Motorsport initiative, which will hold a special 'Under 17 Motorsport' exhibit at the show. The Go Motorsport stand will provide information on a range of racing disciplines which enable young drivers to take to the wheel well before they are legally allowed to drive on British roads. Different entry routes to the sport include Ginetta Juniors, SaxMax and Formula Renault UK, as well as karting, junior rallying, autotesting and drag racing.

"I started out racing karts, which you can do from about six or seven years old," said Moore."It's really easy to get into, as you can hire karts until you get used to it and before committing to buy one.Having this sort of advice available at Autosport International will be really helpful to other young people who want to start racing."

Not only will information on the Ginetta Junior Championship which Moore contested in be available, but the car with which she will compete in next year, the new Zetec-powered G40, will be launched at Autosport International.

TIM STOCK 1944-2009

It was with great sadness that the Club learned yesterday of the death of former Chairman Tim Stock, aged 65, who suffered a fatal heart attack at his home in Spain in the early hours of Sunday morning.Tim had a long association with the BRSCC both as a competitor and administrator. A native of Ipswich Tim joined the Club’s East Anglian Centre in 1970 eventually becoming Chairman which gave him a seat on the main Board of Directors. He served as Vice Chairman for much of Howard Strawford’s tenure as Chairman taking over from Howard when he retired in 1999. Tim also had a brief spell as Chief Executive between 1998 and 1999 filling the gap after John Nicol vacated the post to join Brands Hatch Leisure.Current Chairman Bernard Cottrell took over the reins from Tim in May 2002 although he continued to serve as Vice-Chairman until stepping down from the Board in March 2005.Bernard Cottrell said “Tim was a great servant to the Club and he will be much missed. His considerable business acumen was a real asset to the BRSCC as was his perspective as a competitor. It is a sad irony that he died almost nine years to the day that his great friend John Nicol passed away. Coincidentally, both Tim & John died over the Formula Ford Festival weekend – a meeting both men were hugely fond of.”

The BRSCC would like extend its deepest condolences to Tim’s family on their sad loss.

Dear BRSCC,
I'd like to congratulate everyone at the BRSCC for my wonderful day at Oulton Park, it was lovely to meet so many friendly people around the pit lane and paddock, and to view some great motorsport racing action. It's just a pity that I've only found this on the last race meeting of the season but I cannot wait for next season to start so I can come again.  I'm not sure if these will be of any use to you, but I've attached a few pictures that i took that I thought where quite nice if you wanted to use them anywhere. Again thank your organizing such a great day.

Yours Sincerely,
Matthew Hill

Many Thanks
After speaking to the others they all enjoyed being out on the posts it put them in with the marshals and they had a different perspective as to what goes on and happens, maybe it is something that you should push for next year as I this most people wouldn’t mind and it also builds good relations with Drivers & Marshals.

Matt/ Diz

Just a quick note to say thank you to all the personnel at Anglesey at the weekend that helped and supported Doug.

Doug is fine apart from a few bruises and a stiff neck; he is now keen to get the car fixed ready for the Walter Hayes.

Thanks

The 2 day meeting run by the Leinster Motor Club in conjunction with BRSCC North Western Centre we thought was going to be a disappointing weekend with the loss of the legends from the event, how wrong could we be, the Leinster Motor Club put on a fantastic weekend meeting which included a full grid of Formula Vee's, Formula Libre which raised the roof and much more.

On behalf of the club, I  would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who crossed the water to make this event happen and special thanks to the officials from the event for their hospitality over the weekend and to the team of marshals who make the time to travel to Anglesey each weekend to make this all happen.

Our Thanks To All Involved
Oulton Ginetta incident - TOCA meeting,
 Updated with pictures from event

Most of you will know of the big incident at Old Hall/Avenue involving two Ginetta G50's on Sunday the 31st of May - but not all of you will know how well it was handled. Such incidents are thankfully rare but what this makes it even more unusual is that this incident involved two injured drivers, many marshals, two rescue units and a lot of medics - all working well as a team and all done in front of one of the biggest crowds of the year.

There was a good mix of marshals at the scene - some more experienced than others. We both know from our own experiences that it is natural to question your actions at the scene and 'could I have done better'. We think the answer to that question has to be that it was handled very well. Marshals attended the incident promptly and called for the correct backup, both drivers were extricated quickly and safely, the scene was cleaned up quickly and racing was able to continue without any unnecessary delay.

So, we'd like to publicly thank all those at the scene for a job well done. Let's hope it's a long time before we have to deal with the next one.

We would also like to thank all the marshals involved in the Junior Ginetta incident at Cascades and the Clio "bank bashing" at Hill Top. Even though these were not as serious as the G50 accident, they were also well handled by the marshals, who again communicated very well with race control, rescue crews and medics.

Best regards
Simon Morrell / Colin Whitter (BRSCC/BARC rescue)

My Thanks To All Concerned
Thank you so much to you and the committee, for awarding me the NW region’s Achiever of the Year Award for 2008 last night. As I said to you at the time, I was rather overwhelmed by the announcement, which is probably why I came out with a lot of twaddle when interviewed! What I would like to have done, and maybe can via your website, is to have said the following:

Firstly I would have liked to have thanked all of the Training Day instructors, helpers and presenters, who all made great efforts to ensure that the two days were the success that they turned out to be. Secondly, I would have thanked the guys on the BRSCC Rescue Unit for their camaraderie professionalism and humour, and in particular the leadership and training offered by Simon Morrell. And thirdly, I would have thanked all of the drivers - not only for putting on some spectacular racing in 2008, but also to all those who encouraged me to take up racing, and those who have subsequently helped me - in particular John Ifan Jones of XR Challenge fame...

Thanks very much again,

Andy Holley
